John Sayles, Film Director, Screenwriter and Novelist-- Burian Lecture

Schenectady native and one of America’s most influential independent filmmakers, Sayles is the author the new novel, A Moment in the Sun (2011)— a vast and brilliant American epic. Set in 1897, it portrays the bloody dawn of U.S. intervention in world affairs. NPR said, “If you only read one book... make it A Moment in the Sun.” His award-winning films include SILVER CITY, MATEWAN, and RETURN OF THE SECAUCUS SEVEN.
