The Storm King School

The Storm King School is a hidden treasure among boarding schools in New York State. With special attention to establishing a nurturing learning environment, The Storm King School offers students the opportunity to grow both intellectually as well as socially. Our community inspires students toward academic strength and confidence with a caring faculty in a community that embraces character, wellness, and trust.
With a history dating back to 1867, The Storm King School is situated on the west bank of the Hudson River near the crest of Storm King Mountain just 55 miles north of New York City, the campus offers a commanding view of the Shawangunk Mountains and distant Catskills. The proximity of New York City and the many local offerings provide our students with a wide variety of activities and opportunities. There are approximately 135 students currently enrolled at Storm King, 67% boarding and 33% day students. The School enrolls students from 14 states and 10 countries. The school accepts students in grade 8th as day students and grades 9th through 12th, both boarding and day.
The college preparatory curriculum includes Advanced Placement courses in drawing, calculus AB, and English Literature (as demand warrants). Homogeneous class groupings occur in foreign language, English, and math.
The Arts curriculum supports study in both visual and performing arts and features study at the AP level in drawing. The Physical Education department offers many opportunities for growth via competitive teams and physical education classes.
In a small classroom setting, students are able to get the attention they deserve to enhance their learning experience. At Storm King, we capitalize on students' strengths and use these strengths to bolster less developed areas. We are flexible in arranging programs of study and making maximum use of all of our resources.
