Explore the natural and historic wonders of the Westfield River Valley along the Keystone Arch Bridges Trail in Chester and Middlefield. This four-mile, mostly level, round-trip hike on MassWildlife conservation land follows part of the original railroad line that includes stone arch railroad bridges, built in 1840, an engineering marvel in their day. Participants will explore the ecology, fauna, and flora of the Westfield River watershed while learning about a famous railroad engineer and the early development of the region's transportation network.
