It's 1963 and Vinny and the Gem Tones are about to call it quits after trying to get on the Ed Sullivan show since 1954 - as Vinny makes his departure from the stage a phone call finally comes in from the producer's of the Sunday night classic variety show. (Wouldn't ya' know it)
A promise to audition the group for a Sunday night stint on Sunday Feb 9, 1964 has an unexpected visit from Vinny's nephew Francis - Vinny owes his sister in more ways than one and so promises to give Francis a shot at singing with the band.
Unbeknownst to Vinny, the producers of the Ed Sullivan show are watching their every move and secretly video tape a rehearsal with Francis in it and will only have them on the show as long as "the kid" is in the show.
For the rest of the show Vinny turns Francis into Frankie explaining the whole story of Rock and Roll and how to look the part . the Gems become "The Knuckleheads" for allowing Vinny to even consider having a nerd in the group - and so Frankie and the Knuckleheads are born to play the Ed Sullivan show. One day prior to the event there is a phone call cancelling them on account of an Insect Group coming over from England taking their spot - it's the end of Vinny and the Gem Tones but only the beginning for Frankie and the Knuckleheads in the Story of Rock and Roll.
Audiences will enjoy the1954 - 1963 era with the likes of Bill Haley and the Comets, Bo Diddley, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presely, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dion and the Belmonts, Del Shannon, The Beach Boys and the Four Seasons singing their classic songs.
