My Rabbi’s Story: A Genealogy Through the Centuries
Norman Hanenbaum, a local educator, will talk about his famous ancestor, Rabbi Yomtov Lipman Heller, 1579-1654, on Sunday, April 19, 1:30 pm. The free program, sponsored by the Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut, will be held at Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown.
Rabbi Heller lived through the Thirty Years War, 1618–1648, one of the most destructive conflicts in European history. He contributed many writings to the Mishna, the early compilation of Jewish oral law. His offspring have numbered 25,000. Hanenbaum will bring to the program much material on his family’s history, including a genealogy he compiled
The JGSCT collection will be available for research, beginning at 1:00 pm, and following the program until 4:00 pm."
