New Windsor Cantonment was the last encampment of George Washington's northern Continental Army, during the Revolutionary War. Just 60 miles north of British-controlled New York City, a thriving community of over 7,000 soldiers and 500 family members endured the winter of 1782-83 and hoped that the spring would bring an end to the war. Today, costumed interpreters reenact the ordinary lives of soldiers and civilians in the final tense days of America's first war.
