North Stonington Hike at Clarks Falls Farm, Saturday,May 28th at 9:30 am (heavy rain cancels)
Great hike for families.

Description: Clarks Falls Farm is part of the previous Roode and Tillinghast farms. It is 43 acres of mostly
flat land with some rock outcroppings and has 1600 feet of waterfront on Spalding Pond.
There is an 8 acre corn lot, about 10 acres of hay fields, and 25 acres of forest with mainly pine and oak trees.
We plan to hike the trail along the pond which is more river like, for about 1/2 mile then along
the edge of a field to the driveway leading back to the house. This is about 1 1/4 miles of
walking on mainly flat terrain. There is an abundance of wildlife and some of the plants we
expect to see are wild azalea, lady slippers, white spire, creeping jenny, princess pine and
wild blueberry.
There is a resident peacock named “Buddy” some chickens and two cats. A large coffee pot
will be on, feel free to bring a folding chair if you would rather sit and relax while the others
walk. We look forward to good weather and having a nice walk with the NSCLA and friends.

Time: Sat. May 28, 2011. Meet at 9:30 am.
Directions: Take Clarks Falls Rd. (Rt. 216) from Rt. 49 at the 3-way stop sign intersection where the John
York house is. Go 1/3 mile to #32 Clarks Falls Rd., the driveway is on the right and goes
down the side of the field. Drive almost 1/2 mile through fields & forest to the house & barn for
parking and along the driveway there if needed.
