For more than 50 years, the garden has been a favorite place for strolling, reflecting, taking family and wedding photos and holding community events. The Rose Garden reached its peak of rose population in the late 1970s, at over 5,000 bushes, when it was prestigiously named an All-America Rose Selection display test garden. In the following years however, the garden fell into disrepair, due to the city’s declining tax revenues. It was at the very moment when it seemed likely that the Rose Garden would be completely abandoned, that the local community stepped front and center to form the Rose Garden Restoration Committee, whose singular mission was to restore and enhance this unique public garden. The garden won 3rd place in the 2010 America's Best Rose Gardens competition.
We invite you to see the spectacular result of that great, laborious and ongoing effort. Beginning with the first flush of color in early June and continuing through October, our roses saturate the garden with vibrant rich hues and tantalizing scents. The garden awaits your visit: It is our hope that you will come to the Central Park Rose Garden at in Schenectady, New York to experience the breathtaking delight of strolling among the 4,000 rose bushes.
