Be the Spark! The Importance of Belief in Education
2012 New York State Teacher of the Year and Sage School of Education graduate Katie Ferguson is a 2nd grade teacher in the Schenectady City School District. She is known for her work with independent literacy centers and for individualizing instruction with behavior charts, songs, and cheers to help children learn new concepts. She believes that a strict, but caring environment is essential to learning both academic and life lessons.
